Another animated winner from Pixar. Fitting nicely into the Seven Samurai mold (villagers under seige from bandits seek help from out of work warriors, um, circus performers). Great voice work, beautifully rendered creatures and environments and a terrific story to boot.

Hilariously un-PC and full of memorable one-liners, cultural & racial stereotypes and way-over-the-top performances from Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack and Lloyd Bridges, this '70s parody of Airport is an eminently rewatchable classic. Better fun than the inside of a Turkish prison.

Arguably the greates animated film ever made, Katsuhiro Otomo's post-apocalyptic cyberpunk classic is as influencial as Blade Runner or Star Wars for the Anime set. "Tetttttsssssuuuuuoooo!"
Aliens
Helmed by James "King of the World" Cameron, this second installment in the stomache-popping Giger-fest abandons the and-then-there-were-none conventions of Ridley Scott's Alien and goes for flame-throwing, machine-gunning action. Also the best example of Michael Biehn's typecast soldier role.

The Apartment
Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine are perfect as the luckless junior executive and the elevator girl looking for love in all the wrong places. Billy Wilder's brilliantly cynical but ultimately hopeful romantic comedy critiques the drone existences of our modern corportate lives and the things we do to get ahead.
Apocalypse Now Redux
Being John Malkovich
Leave it up to Spike Jonze and co. to come up with this wholly original mindfuck of a movie. Among the standout performances are John Cusack's desperate puppeteer, Cameron Diaz's frumpy animal-lover and John Malkovich's, well, Malkovich. "It's MYYYYY HEEEAAD!!!"
Big Night
Don't watch this delicious treat of a comedy on an empty stomach. A terrific indie ensemble takes us into the kitchen of a struggling trattoria as they prepare a to-die-for meal for Louis Prima. It'll leave you salivating.
